There’s a palpable sense of remove from the normal life in High Sierra. Every Fourth of July weekend for 16 years, a few thousand folks have climbed above the city bustle to enjoy a temporary reprieve from the 24-hour-a-day rush below…There’s an informality and camaraderie that’s unlike any other music festival I’ve attended. You frequently find yourself sharing beers with the artists who floored you earlier in the day. The musicians seem to enjoy the atmosphere as much as the attendees, and it inspires relaxed, spontaneous performances… Musicians can whisper, tentatively bringing their soul out into the light and mountain air, and audiences hush up. It’s strikingly different than most festivals and speaks to the abiding love of music that fills this place.

ABOUT DAVID GRISMAN SEXTET
For over 45 years, mandolinist/composer David Grisman has been busy creating “dawg” music, a blend of many stylistic influences (including folk, swing, bluegrass, Latin, jazz and gypsy) so unique he gave it its own name. In doing so, David has inspired a whole new genre of acoustic string instrumental music ówith style and virtuosity, while creating a unique niche for himself in the world of contemporary music.
Praised for his mastery of the instrument as well as his talents as a composer, bandleader, teacher and record producer by the New York Times, Davidís role as an acoustic innovator continues to grow. Every Sunday Morning, combining live music and food in a fresh, cultural environment, City Winery’s Klezmer brunch series pairs some of the greatest musicians in the world with delicious lox, bagels and other tasty fare on our brunch menu on Sunday mornings from 10am to 2pm.
Tickets are just $10 to cover for live music and does not include food or drink. Children 13 and under are free for the music. We have a full brunch menu available upon request.
On select weekends we welcome Rabbi Dan Ain from The New Shul to lead thoughtful discussion on theology, spirituality and the movements of the cosmos. The Rebbe’s table to open to all to attend.
