The Purim Ball and Auction has been a venerable JPDS-NC tradition for many years. It is a time for our community to join together and celebrate JPDS-NC and to honor individuals who support our school or who serve as leaders in our community. Last year, nearly 450 guests joined together at the 2011 Purim Ball & Auction, which was held at the National Building Museum.

NCLC is the largest annual gathering of practitioners, policymakers, and school leaders with an interest in Chinese language teaching and learning in North America, and a key venue for bringing together U.S. and Chinese educators in the field.

This year marks the 50th Japanese Street Festival in Washington, DC. It will take place on Saturday, April 10, 2009 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. after the Cherry Blossom Festival parade. The motto of the festival is all things Japanese. From sushi to origami to jujitsu, sumo and sake, festival goers will imbibe the Japanese culture. There will be traditional dances, the dramatic taiko drums, Japanese arts and crafts , Anime (Japanese animation), manga (Japanese comics), and J-Pop music.
This year’s Matsuri will be the biggest ever, on Pennsylvania Avenue from 14th Street in the west to 10th Street on the east —and on 12th Street from Pennsylvania southward to Constitution Avenue.

The International Children’s Festival is presented each May by Meridian International Center, THIS for Diplomats, and Cultural Tourism DC. Part of Meridian and THIS educational outreach efforts, it provides programming—free of charge—to District of Columbia Public School students. The Festival is an interactive and educational fun-fair that promotes cultural exchange and understanding among children of all ages. Twenty embassies host educational booths highlighting their countries’ rich cultural heritage.
