The Viennese Opera Ball in New York is one of the great charity galas that has benefitted other worthy nonprofit institutions for over 50 years.
The words “Viennese Opera Ball” have long been synonymous with international glamour, romantic elegance and prestige.
The waltz and the Viennese Opera Ball became an important Austrian cultural phenomenon. Over time, the concept of the ball was refined to ensure that the ambiance remained true to the tradition. Thus, in 1877, the first of the “court opera soirees” (known as the “Hofopérn-Soireen”) was staged. The Strauss orchestra performed under the direction of Edward Strauss (Johann, Jr.’s younger brother).

PARIS . . . at the beginning of the twentieth century. Few times have been
as urbane or as daring—when carriage met aeroplane, when the ancien régime
met modernity, head-on. In the laboratory of modernism, painters and poets
joined patrons and muses—in cafés, gardens, city interiors, and country châteaux. These encounters set the tone for our Purim Ball 2012.
A modern prophet, few might match Vuillard’s fusion of tradition and the avant-garde. His novel approach to space, color, texture and pattern capture his sensuality and vision.
Join us for the Purim soirée—where Israeli-born artist Izhar Patkin will use
light as his medium to invoke Vuillard’s seductive mood.
