An innovative, multi-disciplinary piece inspired by internationally acclaimed Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca’s trip to New York, which changed his life and art forever. In Wearing Lorca’s Bowtie,15 individual artists find themselves in New York, dreaming of Lorca and wondering why it is that we continue to be drawn to this city to make our life and our art and exploring the peculiar brand of loneliness that this city can evoke. The piece blends fantasy with actual moments from Lorca’s work and trip – such as his famous witnessing of the 1929 stock market crash – with today’s experience of trying to make a life in New York during the biggest economic crisis since Lorca’s visit.
Wearing Lorca’s Bowtie unites some of Spain’s most celebrated award-winning writers, actors, mu ...

Art Along the Hyphen: The Mexican-American Generation explores a seminal but overlooked generation of artists who started working in Los Angeles between the turn of the century and the end of the 1960s, prior to the rise of the Chicano art movement. From commercial illustrations that celebrated the mythic Californios to modernist art that engaged directly with the Civil Rights era, this exhibition pulls together one hundred rarely seen paintings, sculptures, photographs, and graphics to explore how these artists drew inspiration from both their Mexican heritage and American home.
Art Along the Hyphen is part of a unique four-exhibition project, called L.A. Xicano, organized by the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center in partnership with the Autry National Center, the Fowler Museum at UCLA, ...

A collaboration with The Queens Museum of Art and The Studio Museum in Harlem
This project will examine the visual arts and aesthetic development across the Caribbean, considering the histories of the Spanish, French, Dutch and English islands and their Diasporas. An international advisory group of scholars and artists are working with us to plan and present scholarly discussions, public programming, events, educational components, the multi-venue exhibition and a major resource publication. Highlighting rarely-seen works in thematic sections ranging from the Haitian Revolution to the present, the exhibition is both ambitious and groundbreaking. Symposia have been convened in New York, Trinidad, and Martinique/Guadeloupe; we are in the planning stages for forthcoming events in Curaçao and ...
We had a great event with thousands, and thousands, and thousands of hungry people attending. We’re really looking forward to the 2012 Pig Out in the Park, August 29 – September 3, 2012.
Pig Out in the Park is open 10am to 10 pm daily and features: free admission, 54 food booths with over 250 different menu items, 82 free concerts on three stages and 3 adult beverage gardens. Nothing is over a measley $8.95.
One of the things Spokane likes best about Pig Out is the ethnic and cultural diversity of the people and restaurants. This year’s event is a good example. Represented are authentic Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, German, Italian, Korean, Indian, Native American, American, Bavarian, Spanish, French, Jordanian, Russian, Hawaiian, Thai and other Middle Eastern foods.
