This exhibition introduces Japan’s representative dolls, including Hina ningyo (Girls’ Festival dolls) and Gogatsu ningyo (Boys’ Day dolls), which have their origins in ancient customs; dolls connected to traditional performing arts like noh, bunraku and kabuki; regional dolls from throughout the country; and “creative dolls” produced by contemporary crafts-people.
This exhibit will be free and open to the public from Feb. 27th through the end of march.

New York City, March 1, 2012 – The spell of spring with its promise of renewal and rebirth ushers in the season for Easter traditions and the making of pysanky (Ukrainian decorated eggs). The month of March begins at The Ukrainian Museum with an exhibition of nearly 300 pysanky, and continues with a line up of workshops on pysanka decorating, a demonstration of this art form, and a baking class in Easter breads.
In keeping with its annual springtime tradition, the Museum is presenting an exhibition of pysanky – the unique Ukrainian Easter eggs known the world over for their intricate, colorful designs. The Indo-American Arts Council’s 9th Annual Erasing Borders Exhibition of Contemporary Indian Art of the Diaspora features work by 41 artists who confront issues like sexuality, terror, disease, the environment and racial politics through various artistic mediums like paintings, prints, installations, video and sculpture. This eclectic mix of artists is chosen by curator Vijay Kumar and is free and open to the public. The resulting works often meld Indian and Western ideas about color, form and subject. The opening reception will take place at Crossing Art Queens on March 17 from 3pm to 6pm.

The 2012 Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival will be held at Marine Stadium in Long Beach on July 28 – July 29, 2012.
A weekend of races in magnificently-decorated canoes/Dragon Boats showcasing pageantry, diversity and sportsmanship from across the globe and as well as an on-shore festival. In addition to hosting one of the largest dragon boat competitions in California, there will be Chinese traditional art demonstrations, Chinese Acrobats, traditional dance, hip hop music and martial arts performances.
