Globe-trotting percussion ensemble Talavya (formerly Tabla Ecstasy) bring the Indian hand-drums tabla to the center stage in new avatar, distilling its age-old spirit and practice into a high-energy, highly accessible evening that reveals the instrument’s true joys.
Composed by Indian music maestro Pandit Divyang Vakil, the quartet moves between rousing peaks and smooth meditative passages, expressing the various emotions of tabla. Played with the passion and power of a rock drum solo along with the sophistication and subtlety of a classical performance, Talavya is contemporary in feel, while full of the richness of classical tabla. In her performance, artist Clarina Bezzola plays the character of a man-devouring beast – walking through the streets of New York in an exotic red costume as she sings Musetta´s Ariafrom Puccini´s La Bohème: Quando men vo. Her character feels so immensely sexual and powerful that men who come near her can’t help but drown in her giant toothed cleavage as they succumb to her charms. Protruding from her back is the giant hand of desperation, which she unknowingly drags behind herself – her futile attempt to slow down the unstoppable passage of time.

The Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade & New Year’s Day Firecracker Ceremony was founded in 1999 to provide New york’s Chinese American community with a large scale celebration on par with those in San Francisco and Los Angeles. In recent years it has suppressed it, the event has grown into a New York City-wide affair and New York’s biggest winter tourist attraction, luring thousands of visitors from all over the United States and the world. With the dog parade 5 years ago and 4 years ago the Pig race, 2- colorful float, 20 antique cars, 200 cultural performers & 3000 marchers participating making the parade more exciting.
