Cellist Joyce Geeting and pianist Christine DeKlotz perform Carol Worthey’s Elegy, a work commissioned by Geeting as a tribute to those lost in the deadly terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Also on the program areVocalise by Rachmaninoff and Sonata, Opus 78 by Brahms, works of a spiritual and healing nature.
Geeting gave the premiere performance of Elegy at St. Martin-in the-Fields in London in 2003 and has performed the composition in Germany and throughout the United States. She and DeKlotz will perform the East Coast premiere at a concert in Manhattan on Sept. 11.
Donations will defray the cost of travel to New York.

Description: Something to Sing About in New York will offer a concert of heartfelt and inspiring poetry and drama, as well as vocal and instrumental music (piano/flute/guitar selections) from the classics to musical theatre in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of September 11. Since 2005 the TransAltantic Ensemble has been making music together as a duo on either side of the Atlantic. Hailing from Berlin and New York, the ensemble has aimed to bring together the elements that make classical music the evolution of sound that it is today. Their performances have gained the audiences of contemporary, crossover, classical and even jazz tastes.
They have performed in Carnegie Hall with Paquito D’Rivera, Symphony Space, Chamber Music Lincoln Center, also in Hamburg, Leipzig, Costa Rica with several repeat performances throughout Berlin.

Yuja Wang is a Chinese classical pianist. She was born in Beijing, began studying piano there at age six, and went on to study at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. In 2001, Wang won Third Prize and Special Jury Prize (awarded to an especially superior finalist of less than 20 years in age, prize money of 500,000 Japanese Yen) in the Piano Section at the First Sendai International Music Competition in Sendai, Japan.

The Florida State University College of Music presents “An Evening of Chamber Music at Carnegie Hall”
The program showcases two duos; the first half features the settings of the poetry of Langston Hughes performed by Albert Lee (tenor) and Edward Rothmel (piano). The second half of the program traces the musical journey of dynamic pianists Hyemin Kim and Joohae Kim. Hyemin Kim introduces the program with a solo piano piece “Wizards: Three Magic Masters” by American composer Judith Lang Zaimont. Joohae Kim then follows with two pieces from “Landscape Preludes” by New Zealand composers John Psathas and Gareth Farr.
