Cellist Joyce Geeting and pianist Christine DeKlotz perform Carol Worthey’s Elegy, a work commissioned by Geeting as a tribute to those lost in the deadly terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Also on the program areVocalise by Rachmaninoff and Sonata, Opus 78 by Brahms, works of a spiritual and healing nature.
Geeting gave the premiere performance of Elegy at St. Martin-in the-Fields in London in 2003 and has performed the composition in Germany and throughout the United States. She and DeKlotz will perform the East Coast premiere at a concert in Manhattan on Sept. 11.
Donations will defray the cost of travel to New York.

Jazz pianist Olivia Revueltas was born in Mexico City where she began self-taught studies of music and particularly of Jazz at the age of 23 and commenced her performing career in 1978. Her trio "Naima" became one of the most widely-known jazz groups in Mexico. She is based in San Antonio, TX. The "Year of Jazz'' will run from October 2011 to October 2012. During that time KRTU and more than 20 cultural and arts organizations will stage local jazz performances at venues throughout the city. Pianist Ran Dank deploys his brilliant technique with astonishing skill, although it is his interpretive powers that captivate audiences and garner critical acclaim. During the 2010-11 season, Mr. Dank made his debut in the Washington Performing Arts Society’s prestigious Hayes Piano Series at the Kennedy Center. He just won the second prize at the famous Naumberg Competition Program: Beethoven: Sonata No. 29 in B-flat Major, Op. 106(“Hammerklavier”); Chopin: Preludes, Op. 28.

Chinese-American pianist Dave Liang returns to the Asia Society with The Shanghai Restoration Project, a group renowned for its unique blend of Chinese instrumentation, hip-hop and electronica. The group draws its inspiration from the 1930s jazz clubs of Shanghai, and the performance features vocalist Zhang Le singing in this distinctive style. Joining the two onstage will be the electronic musician Jamahl Richardson.
The evening will also feature a multimedia presentation from Sean Leow of NeochaEDGE, a Shanghai-based creative agency, introducing the audience to the emerging Chinese creative community.
