Children and their families will gather in Nolan Park on Governors Island to enjoy music, theater, dance, arts & crafts, face painting, maritime education and more. Performances will run throughout the day with artists such as Astrograss, The Maybelles, and Arm of the Sea Theater. Volunteer opportunities for the festival are also available and we encourage and welcome locals to participate!  This will be the 8th Opening Weekend Family Festival the Governors Island Alliance has hosted on the Island. Busan Metropolitan Traditional Music Orchestra performs both traditional Korean music and contemporary work by some of the country’s leading composers. Traditional pieces include Haegeum sanjo, a work for stringed instrument and single drum noted for its masterful variety of rhythms and melodies, and Samulnori, which combines the sound of two gongs and two drums. The contemporary works include Boating Song, composer Won Il’s modern rendering of a traditional Gyeonggi Province boating song, and Hong Dong-gi’s The Spirit of Goguryeo, which combines traditional Korean and Western musical forms. Starscape 2012 is the thirteenth annual Starscape Festival, and will be held on Saturday June 9, 2012 at Fort Armistead Park in Baltimore, MD. The event features five stages of music and entertainment, mixing live acts, djs, and visual performances. The event begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, and runs continuously through until 6 a.m. on Sunday morning, culminating in the sunrise over the Chesapeake Bay.
