Multicultural Day is an event by the Friends of Mifflin Square Park group, with the purpose of celebrating the cultural diversity of the park community members by offering ethnic food and performances, as well as providing information to attendees about the friends group and other community groups in the South Philadelphia region. Since park events cease during the cold months, this event is a great way to continue Friends efforts year-round.

Faces of Others is a series of international film festivals featuring selections from Poland, Netherlands, South Africa, Israel, Palestine, Argentina, France, Germany, Austria, Greece, Norway, Iran, Korea, Romania, Russia and Pittsburgh. Every year, the Carnegie Mellon International Film Festival challenges its participants to view the world with an open mind and through a myriad of multicultural lenses. In 2012, the tradition continues as the selected festival films explore this year’s theme: Faces of Others. The Other is something that every person on this planet experiences, but it is also something that baffles scholars, psychologists and philosophers alike. Designed to complement the African American Iconic Images Mural Tour, this family-friendly workshop invites participants to delve further into themes highlighted along the mural tour. Participants will have an opportunity to learn to create art in response to the murals they see along the tour. Tour participation not required for workshop participation.

Madame Saito, sushi-making instructor at Temple University, presents the 7th annual Amateur Sushi Making Contest. Judges will evaluate contestants’ original sushi creations and prizes will be awarded. Spectators can watch the sushi being made while enjoying sushi and sake.

KAZKA Ukrainian Folk Ensemble was founded in 1987 in order to preserve, promote, and enhance Ukrainian culture, music, and dance in the anthracite coal regions of Northern Pennsylvania. KAZKA is particularly dedicated to the preservation of the music and dance of the first wave of immigrants to the anthracite regions in the late 19th century and early 20th century. KAZKA seeks to share Ukrainian music and dance with a wide audience both at home in Schuylkil County, Pennsylvania and throughout the United States through performances, workshops, and lectures. KAZKA is incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in Pennsylvania.
