Black champagne and the smells of Mars, tasteless candy and recorded silence, Lori Gréaud’s art is equal parts science experiment and cyberpunk carnival ride. On Saturday, Greaud will bring his heady thrills to New York with “The Unplayed Notes” at the Pace Gallery, his first major US show.
The 32-year-old artist shot to international prominence in recent years with shows in London, Tokyo and Paris, including a 2008 exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo that was the first solo show to use the venue’s entire 40,000 square foot space. Gréaud’s works are ambitious and complex, often created in collaboration with engineers, scientists, and other specialists, with the artist playing a role more often associated with a film director.
