Just two years after the 2008 Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire renewed our fascination with India, The Commonwealth Club is presenting a closer look at this ancient culture in their August series of special lectures this year.
“India NOW” will feature topics ranging from Bollywood to yoga, ancient tradition to remarkable innovation. The Club will welcome a number of prominent India experts from various fields, including academia, business, government and the arts. With a host of speakers, panels, films, and exhibits, the series will shed light on India’s complexities and explore its rich diversity.

Starting June 18, 2011, the Balzekas Museum of Lithuanian Culture will host a series of programs–exhibits, film viewings, lectures, book presentations, and deportation survivor reminiscences–commemorating 70 years since the start of mass deportations of Lithuanians to the Gulag – the vast network of concentration camps and prisons in Siberia and other remote regions of the Soviet Union.

The 2011 West Coast Eisteddfod: Welsh Festival of Arts which celebrates Welsh identity and cultural expression takes place at the Barnsdall Art Park, 4800 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, California from September 23 to 25.

KAZKA Ukrainian Folk Ensemble was founded in 1987 in order to preserve, promote, and enhance Ukrainian culture, music, and dance in the anthracite coal regions of Northern Pennsylvania. KAZKA is particularly dedicated to the preservation of the music and dance of the first wave of immigrants to the anthracite regions in the late 19th century and early 20th century. KAZKA seeks to share Ukrainian music and dance with a wide audience both at home in Schuylkil County, Pennsylvania and throughout the United States through performances, workshops, and lectures. KAZKA is incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in Pennsylvania.

The Kalamazoo Russian Festival is an all day event with a combination of scheduled programs and open format that runs from 10A to 4P. One of the first things many festival guests like to do is to grab a schedule and mark their “must sees”. At a typical festival we will have at least three musical performances, a theater production, and a vocal choir, with a variety of lectures and ceremonies mixed in. Past years have also seen specialty acts ranging from professional puppet shows, to magicians, and jugglers. Once you have decided when to be where, your time between programs can be spent roaming one of our two exhibition halls full of vendors, perusing the art gallery, enjoying music and crafts in the children’s room, or stopping by the chess room to challenge our loca ...
