Miami-Dade Parks & Skyward Kites co-host the event.
The spectacle includes such giant kites as a 100-foot squid, a 20-foot Nemo fish, and a 30-foot scuba man. Local kite-masters will display styles from such countries as Cuba, Haiti, Trinidad, China, Columbia, Peru, and Venezuela. Patrons are encouraged to bring along their own homemade kites to fly. Kites will also be available for purchase starting at $5. Event admission is free. Parking is $6.

Celebrate Japan’s New Year’s holiday with lion dancing (shishi-mai) accompanied by live taiko drumming and Gagaku court music. There will be lots of traditional New Year’s activities for children, including special New Year’s calligraphy (kakizome), kite-making/flying (takoage), fukuwarai (funny face) game, taiko drumming, and rice pounding (mochi-tsuki).
Recommended for all ages.
