Every first Sunday of the month, the Autry celebrates American Indian culture with stories from American Indian authors and illustrators, special docent-led family tours, live American Indian music, and a special American Indian cultural presentation from John Bradley (Comanche/Cherokee), a nationally recognized artist in basketry and traditional arts. This winter, Bradley will share traditional American Indian games from the Plains to California. Families will learn about the history and role of games in American Indian life, join together in a game, then make game pieces to take home and enjoy with family and friends.

THE THREE KIINGS/ LOS TRES REYES MAGOS arrive at TEATRO SEA
On January 6th 2012, the light from a star will lead the Three Kings to Teatro SEA, New York’s Only Latino Children’s Theatre, to celebrate one of the most important Latin American Holidays for children, El Día de los Tres Reyes Magos/Three Kings Day. On this day, the first 1,000 kids to arrive at TEATRO SEA will personally meet the Three Kings as well as receive a FREE gift.

Families are invited to head to the Dana Discovery Center afterschool gets out, and kick off their weekend with the Museum for African Art educators. Design a fabric print inspired by a variety of natural designs found in Africa. Participants can drop in anytime between 2:30 and 4:30 pm. Japan’s famous Tanabata legends, Hikoboshi and Orihime, are introduced through a variety of forms of storytelling including Kamishibai. As a part of Tanabata tradition, participants learn how to make various, fun paper ornaments and their own tanzaku, thin paper strips for writing wishes, to decorate bamboo branches.
Recommended for children ages 3-10 and accompanying adults.
