The Nehirim Queer Shabbaton, now in its fifth year, is a weekend of queer Jewish culture, creativity, and politics. This year, the Queer Shabbaton features high-profile political sessions, an awesome Saturday night party, and lots of nice (and not-so-nice) Jewish boys, girls, and the rest of us. Highlights this year include:
The “Nehiween” Costume Ball, Saturday night featuring SCHMEKEL (100% Transgender, 100% Jewish buffet of punk, klezmer, jazz, rock and polka). Bring a costume!
Kate Bornstein, one of the true pioneers of the queer universe (really), will be giving a talk on Saturday morning.

The Umbrella Music Festival opens November 2nd with a special evening of concerts dubbed “EUROPEAN JAZZ MEETS CHICAGO,” co-presented with the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events in partnership with the Chicago Office of Tourism and Culture, and ten different European consulates and cultural organizations. All concerts are FREE. Chicago Cultural Center.

Sangati Center presents Carnatic Saxophone Concert with Prasant Radhakrishnan. Firmly rooted in tradition, Prasant Radhakrishnan’s subtle, fluid style is a formidable voice in carnatic music. The unique vocal texture of his sound on saxophone, noted for its expressive complexity and rhythmic ingenuity, reflects Prasant’s continued study, constant innovation, and vast concert experience. For the past many years, Prasant has been an Oakland resident, delivering excellent concerts of South Indian classical music, as well as leading one of the most legit carnatic jazz groups in the world - VidyA.

The Asian Heritage Street Celebration is held every year on the third Saturday in May in San Francisco, California. The Asian Heritage Street Celebration (AHSC) is organized by the AsianWeek Foundation in cooperation with over 150 organizations in the Asian American community.
