Le Mamme di San Vito (2010), 65 min., directed by Gianni Torres In Bràs, a poor district of Sao Paulo, Brazil, the Nursery of San Vito provides care for approximately 120 children. Funds are raised during the annual Festa di San Vito, when an association founded by early 20th c. Italian immigrants from Polignano a Mare sells Pugliese food to over 80,000 customers. The women who prepare the food are known as “le mamme di San Vito.” This film tells their story in the context of immigration history as well as the current demand for childcare services in Bràs. We had a great event with thousands, and thousands, and thousands of hungry people attending. We’re really looking forward to the 2012 Pig Out in the Park, August 29 – September 3, 2012. Pig Out in the Park is open 10am to 10 pm daily and features: free admission, 54 food booths with over 250 different menu items, 82 free concerts on three stages and 3 adult beverage gardens. Nothing is over a measley $8.95. One of the things Spokane likes best about Pig Out is the ethnic and cultural diversity of the people and restaurants. This year’s event is a good example.
