It may come as a surprise to Mission-hoppers but it’s muy dificil to sustain a Spanish-language film festival in this town. Three groups (by our count) have accepted the challenge over the past 20 years, each hamstrung by a community that lacks the financial big-hitters of its compadres in, say, L.A. or Miami. So kudos to Cine+Mas, the current standard-bearer of the San Francisco Latino Film Festival, for assembling an intriguingly wide-ranging program — geographically and thematically — on a shoestring budget. Today’s offerings at Opera Plaza Cinema begin on a high note with Being: Café Tacvba (1 p.m.), a slice of life on tour with Mexico’s most revered and durable rock ’n’ roll band. The conference is intended to help bring together Latino(a) writers and authors with persons already involved in the publishing industry (agents, publishers, editors, established authors).
Enjoy networking with fellow poets, writers and authors with similar experiences in trying to get their work out there, make themselves heard, or even get their work published. So if you have business cards, and NO they are not a must, then bring them. Maybe you’ll run into a fellow writer or author that you can share ideas and information with.

Dia De Los Muertos
This is the only LGBT Day of the Dead Altar in New York City. This ritual has been observed by indigenous cultures and Latinas\os for over 3000 years. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to celebrate and remember friends and relatives who have died.
Traditions include building private altars honoring the deceased, and offering sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed.
