One of Australia’s most innovative and acclaimed theatre companies is travelling to New York’s New Victory Theater this April. Belvoir will perform The Book of Everything by Guus Kuijer in a space that is known to be one of the most prestigious venues for children’s work in the world.
The performance takes audience members on a journey with nine-year-old Tomas Klopper. Thomas has one simple but important wish, When I grow up, I’m going to be happy. On his journey he sees extraordinary things that most people ignore: plagues of hopping frogs, summer hailstorms and rivers bursting with tropical fish. The story tells us about a child who learns to act when beset by fear and faced by wrong as Tom grapples with issues such as religious views and domestic violence.
