The change into the spring season is an important to time in Japanese culture. It marks a period of celebration, new beginnings and good luck. A big festival is one way the Japanese celebrate this occasion. So come join us for a day of culture, games and FOOD!
Guests can enjoy all aspects of Japanese culture; from fashion, anime, music, calligraphy, games and much more. Food will be served from a local Japanese restaurant. The experience will be like day in Japan.
Attendees can witness Japanese entertainment; from Cosplay, cultural dances, to Japanese Martial Arts. Big thanks to the Okinawan Society, the KASA Dance Team and Oushi Anime!

Inspired by Obon, Japan’s traditional three-day holiday honoring ancestors and thanking them for the quality of life enjoyed by the living, The Morikami celebrates Bon Festival in one fun-packed evening. Highlights include rousing taiko drum performances, traditional Japanese folk dancing with audience participation, ghost stories, and a street fair with games and shop stalls. The highlight of the evening begins at sunset when Morikami Pond is transformed into a tranquil sea of lighted lanterns which, in accordance with Japanese custom, guide the departure of ancestors’ souls who have come for a brief visit among the living. A special fireworks display caps the enchanting evening.

Come join us for a weekend of world-class dragon boat racing, spectacular cultural performances, and fun-filled activities for the whole family at the largest competitive dragon boat festival in the United States. This year, we have over 120 dragon boat teams and 3,500 dragon boat paddlers racing our 500 and 300 meter course.
Dragon boat teams range from novice to competitive skill level. Novice teams represent local Bay Area corporations, public agencies, and non-profit community.
Recreational and competitive teams practice year-round and hail from all over the United States, Canada, and the Netherlands. This year’s championship race is going to be one of the fiercest battles for victory to date!

Celebrating its 60th year and the 2012 theme, the largest block party will kick off with the arrival of the Royal Court. Multiple stages of entertainment, lots of food, lei vendors and hula crafters will be spread along 12 city blocks of the world famous Kalakaua Avenue.
