Arab American National Museum is proud to host Los Angeles-based Syrian American hip-hop artist, Omar Offendum known for taking audiences on a lyrical journey from the jasmine-tree-lined courtyards of Nizar Qabbani’s Damascene homes, to the flooded riverbanks of Langston Hughes’ Harlem Renaissance poems. Of late he has been involved in creating several critically-acclaimed songs about the recent Arab World democratic uprisings and promoting his solo-debut CD, SyrianamericanA.

These entertaining and educational weekly sessions are designed to expose young people ages 6-12 to cultures and activities outside their normal experience with age-appropriate craft activities. AANM educators lead all sessions; all supplies are provided.
All children taking part in Free Craft Sundays must be accompanied by a parent.

The Michigan Arab Orchestra (MAO) opens its fall season at the Arab American National Museum with a performance by the MAO Takht Ensemble, featuring Usama Baalbaki and guest vocalist Nidal Ibourk.
Founded in 2010 and directed by Michael Ibrahim, the MAO is a nonprofit organization that celebrates classical and contemporary Arab music through educational outreach and performance. For more information, click HERE.

With the outbreak of massive pro-democracy uprisings that have swept the Arab World since December 2010, the term “Arab Spring” has acquired a whole new meaning; one that holds far more positive connotations for Arabs across the world than it did when it was first coined in 2005 to suggest the benefits Arabs were to reap shortly after, and as a direct result of, the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.
During these six years, between the first patronizing usage of this term and the recent storm of independent people-led Arab revolutionary waves that led to its reemergence in a new context, several filmmakers across Arab countries have been actively and innovatively depicting, questioning and challenging the status quo, employing a variety of approaches that ranged from analytical to highly critical ...
