Vibrant dancing, spectacular harmonies and undiscovered music of the Caribbean performed by a vocal and percussion ensemble little known outside of Cuba, The Creole Choir of Cuba have preserved musical treasures from Haiti, Dominica and Cuba within their rich descendant Cuban communities. Let’s drum together! Suki will lead us in Afro Cuban and Congolese Styles, including tumbao, and rumba. We’ll also work on improving individual technique. “Suki knows how to play and she knows how to teach! And she’s one of the most approachable, easy-going people you’d want to meet.” Suki has been playing drums for 35 years. She has studied with many master drummers from the Congo, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Trinidad and has played with many excellent bands.

Miami-Dade Parks & Skyward Kites co-host the event.
The spectacle includes such giant kites as a 100-foot squid, a 20-foot Nemo fish, and a 30-foot scuba man. Local kite-masters will display styles from such countries as Cuba, Haiti, Trinidad, China, Columbia, Peru, and Venezuela. Patrons are encouraged to bring along their own homemade kites to fly. Kites will also be available for purchase starting at $5. Event admission is free. Parking is $6.

The Ninth Annual San Francisco International Arts Festival (SFIAF) will kick off on May 2, 2012 , with more than 40 performances being presented at multiple venues throughout the city. With its annual theme, The Truth in Knowing/Now: Threads in Time, Place, Culture, SFIAF 2012 will include World Premieres, US Debuts and International Collaborations featuring leading artists from the Bay Area performing alongside their peers from around the world.
