Globe-trotting percussion ensemble Talavya (formerly Tabla Ecstasy) bring the Indian hand-drums tabla to the center stage in new avatar, distilling its age-old spirit and practice into a high-energy, highly accessible evening that reveals the instrument’s true joys.
Composed by Indian music maestro Pandit Divyang Vakil, the quartet moves between rousing peaks and smooth meditative passages, expressing the various emotions of tabla. Played with the passion and power of a rock drum solo along with the sophistication and subtlety of a classical performance, Talavya is contemporary in feel, while full of the richness of classical tabla. Since 2005 the TransAltantic Ensemble has been making music together as a duo on either side of the Atlantic. Hailing from Berlin and New York, the ensemble has aimed to bring together the elements that make classical music the evolution of sound that it is today. Their performances have gained the audiences of contemporary, crossover, classical and even jazz tastes.
They have performed in Carnegie Hall with Paquito D’Rivera, Symphony Space, Chamber Music Lincoln Center, also in Hamburg, Leipzig, Costa Rica with several repeat performances throughout Berlin.

Since 2002, Shapiro has toured the world with her Khmer Arts Ensemble, dramatically expanding the repertory of Cambodian dance. In The Lives of Giants—featuring a company of 36 dancers, instrumentalists, and singers—a blind and vengeful giant wreaks havoc in the heavens. When tricked into using his ill-gotten weapon of destruction on himself, layers of elaborate deception are stripped away and his treachery is laid bare. “A gorgeous spectacle of contradictory sensations” (New York Times).

The Korean Traditional Performing Arts Association (KTPAA) proudly presents its 17th Annual Concert entitled “Secular Buddhist Ritual and Beyond: Dance, Drumming and Chamber Music of Korea”. The concert will introduce the Korean Buddhist Monk Dance, seumgmu, performed by two of the most distinguished Korean dance masters, Sue Yeon Park and Song Hee Lee, with accompaniment by a Korean chamber orchestra. This orchestra will be led by the renowned Korean music composer/arranger/pianist, Soungwhan Yang, and will demonstrate an array of mystical sounds connecting the old and the new.
