The Nordic Heritage Museum, Seattle and Nordic House, Reykjavik are proud to announce the 2011 Nordic Fashion Biennale taking place this fall at the Nordic Heritage Museum in Seattle, Washington. This will be the first time this event is being held in the United States. The Nordic Fashion Biennale was launched by the Nordic House, Reykjavik in 2009 in Reykjavik, Iceland, and included more than 60 designers, artists, musicians and speakers.
The 2011 Nordic Fashion Biennale is being produced by the Nordic House, Reykjavik and the Nordic Heritage Museum. There was Chemistry, an installation about “getting personal and naming names” by Yann Toma, will open Tuesday October 25th as part of the Walls and Bridges program Chords and Discords at the Cultural Services of the French Embassy. The installation is free and open to the public. It will be on view from Wednesday, October 26 through Friday October 28, 2011.

There’s a palpable sense of remove from the normal life in High Sierra. Every Fourth of July weekend for 16 years, a few thousand folks have climbed above the city bustle to enjoy a temporary reprieve from the 24-hour-a-day rush below…There’s an informality and camaraderie that’s unlike any other music festival I’ve attended. You frequently find yourself sharing beers with the artists who floored you earlier in the day. The musicians seem to enjoy the atmosphere as much as the attendees, and it inspires relaxed, spontaneous performances… Musicians can whisper, tentatively bringing their soul out into the light and mountain air, and audiences hush up. It’s strikingly different than most festivals and speaks to the abiding love of music that fills this place.
