New York City, March 1, 2012 – The spell of spring with its promise of renewal and rebirth ushers in the season for Easter traditions and the making of pysanky (Ukrainian decorated eggs). The month of March begins at The Ukrainian Museum with an exhibition of nearly 300 pysanky, and continues with a line up of workshops on pysanka decorating, a demonstration of this art form, and a baking class in Easter breads.
In keeping with its annual springtime tradition, the Museum is presenting an exhibition of pysanky – the unique Ukrainian Easter eggs known the world over for their intricate, colorful designs. You’re invited for an afternoon of tea, an assortment of tea sandwiches and delightful deserts, all part of a fundraiser for the UACCNJ!

Pysanka – the Ukrainian Easter Egg
Artist – Sofika Zielyk will demonstrate the traditional batik process of the Ukrainian Easter Egg and discuss the history, legends, symbols and myths of this ancient and unique art form.

KAZKA Ukrainian Folk Ensemble was founded in 1987 in order to preserve, promote, and enhance Ukrainian culture, music, and dance in the anthracite coal regions of Northern Pennsylvania. KAZKA is particularly dedicated to the preservation of the music and dance of the first wave of immigrants to the anthracite regions in the late 19th century and early 20th century. KAZKA seeks to share Ukrainian music and dance with a wide audience both at home in Schuylkil County, Pennsylvania and throughout the United States through performances, workshops, and lectures. KAZKA is incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in Pennsylvania.
