“De Pueblo a Pueblo” (From Town to Town), a citywide celebration of Mexican culture, kicks off this Friday, April 27.
The eight-week festival runs through June 17, honoring Philadelphia’s growing Mexican community.
The celebration includes performances, tours, lectures, film screenings, craft activities and art shows. The event kicks off at Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens with photographer Laurence Salzmann’s exhibition Echele Ganas: A Life Left Behind, a collection featuring images of the people of La Sierra del Norte, a rural village in Puebla, Mexico.
The exhibit will serve as the geographic and visual hub of De Pueblo a Pueblo.

The annual Cinco de Mayo celebration at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. May 5.
The event will feature performances of traditional Mexican dances in the Hart-Morris Conservation Center. Athens area elementary students will perform at noon followed by Tyler Ballet Folklorico at 1:00 p.m. and the children’s Tyler Ballet Folklorico at 3:00 p.m.
Athens area restaurants will compete in a salsa contest, which will be judged at 1:00 p.m. Visitors will be able to sample the entries following the judging.
The Blackland Prairie Raptor Center will do walk-around displays of birds including owls and hawks throughout the day. Visitors will be able to see the birds at close range and learn about their abilities and habits.

The annual Cinco de Mayo Festival is the premiere community fund raising event organized and conducted by the Central Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in the city of Manteca. Funds raised from this festive event are used throughout the year for Chamber programs, such as, developing and providing local Hispanic and non-Hispanic businesses with tools, support and advocacy to help them build a stronger business future.
This year the Cinco Festival returns to Downtown Manteca–after two years of rebuilding by the City, Library Park is once again available for the Festival. The Festival will include the same festive elements as last year but will be located in a cool setting amongst trees and grass and on the adjoining streets.
